The Newton-le-Willows Family Community Centre garden has been given a new lease of life, thanks to St Helens College’s Princes Trust Team 79.

After raising the funds to restore the garden, the team spent two weeks on the community project, working hard to ensure it could be enjoyed by members of the community and their children.

They designed and painted a feature wall, built planters, created a pathway and carried out general maintenance.
The project concluded with a celebratory presentation, and was well attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Prince’s Trust Programme Leaders, residents and community centre staff.

The team of eight also received certificates, congratulating them on their hard work and achievements.
Angela Novak, Prince’s Trust Instructor and Assessor, said, “We are extremely proud of what the team has achieved. They have worked incredibly hard from start to finish, from choosing their project and raising the funds to planning the restoration and successfully completing the project.”
She added, “I would also like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Community Centre, for their support throughout our time there.”

The Prince’s Trust Team Programme is a free, 12-week personal development course, for those aged between 16-25, and is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to work within a real, working environment, to build upon their own personal development, confidence and employability skills.

Lisa Barnes, Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator at Newton-le-Willows Community Centre said, “We would like to thank the Prince’s Trust for providing us with a beautiful garden and play space for the children and the community to enjoy. Having this work done has enabled us to use our outside space more efficiently and we can't wait to start planting and having fun.”
