Catering and Hospitality students from St Helens College welcomed renowned celebrity chef, Nigel Haworth to the kitchens last week to host an exclusive Guest Chef Dinner at Colours Restaurant.
TV chef, Nigel Haworth is chef patron at Northcote and Ribble Valley Inns, his career has taken him on a journey from the Schweizerhof Hotel in Switzerland to Gleneagles in Scotland before landing a highly-covetable job at the Grosvenor Hotel in London. After two years at the hotel’s prestigious restaurant, Nigel returned to Lancashire to lecture at the same college he studied at – teaching young chefs and preparing them for the real heat of the kitchen.
In advance of the dinner, students had the opportunity to spend the day at Northcote working alongside Nigel, to get hands-on experience in a Michelin-starred restaurant. They explored the gardens to source fresh produce and developed valuable skills in readiness for the Guest Chef Dinner event the following evening.
For the event, excited students worked alongside Nigel to deliver a delightful menu featuring, treacle cured salmon, devon crab, butter puff pastry wrapped lamb and Jerusalem artichokes.
Terry Lavin, Head of Hospitality and Tourism spoke about the dinner saying, “These events are invaluable opportunities for our students to gain real insight into the exciting industry that they are preparing to enter. Nigel is an amazing chef and we are so grateful for his contribution, the feedback from the students who took part was very positive. Not only was it a great learning experience for them, but will also look brilliant on their CV.”
