Six apprentices studying towards their NVQ Level 2 in Painting and Decorating at St Helens College and employed by Bagnalls, North West have successfully completed their level 2 apprenticeship, following two years of dedication and commitment.

Apprentices, Adam Knowles, 18, Lewis Smith, 18 and Scotty Gresty, 18, Liam Birchall, 26, Jordan Smith, 20 and Ryan Mayers, 24 all started their apprenticeship with Bagnalls and St Helens College in 2015 and last year all successfully completed their level 2 qualifications.

Not stopping there, Adam Knowles was announced the Junior Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) last year at a prestigious ceremony.

St Helens College has been Bagnalls preferred training partner for apprentices in the local area for over 40 years, helping develop hundreds of apprentices, time-served painters, foremen and even contracts managers.

Terry O'Keefe, Lecturer in Painting and Decorating at St Helens College said: “It’s great to see the success of the Bagnalls apprentices. I wish them all the success for the future and look forward to seeing them back at the College for their level 3 apprenticeship in the autumn. Bagnalls is just one of several companies who return to St Helens College regularly to take on an apprentice from our painting and decorating courses.”

Kevin Travers, Bagnalls Supervisor, St Helens said: “I am really proud of all of our apprentices. The qualifications in painting and decorating will give them a great start in their chosen careers and has already proved them to be capable and valuable members of the Bagnalls team. Our relationship with St Helens College has been long standing and fully supportive, year in and year out. The constant support of the college and its staff has resulted in Bagnalls successfully recruiting and retaining many apprentices over the years, who have continued to be employed by Bagnalls, many of whom are now in senior site and contracts management positions.”

Bagnalls is a specialist Painting, Decorating and Industrial Coatings contractor. The head office is based in Shipley, West Yorkshire with over 16 branches across the UK including St Helens and Ellesmere Port.

Later this year, some of the six successful apprentices will be given the option to progress on to a Level 3 NVQ qualification. This will allow them to gain more knowledge and experience within the painting and decorating and wider construction industry, allowing them to progress within their careers.

Four current Bagnalls apprentices are on track to successfully complete their apprenticeship later this year. Bagnalls will also be turning to the college once again as it looks to take on new apprentices from September.
