Tutors deliver best practice seminars to German teachersSt Helens College Engineering and Motor Vehicle Tutors recently spent two days in Germany to deliver special seminars to German teachers.

Tutors, John Sheron and Andy Moran delivered the seminars during a professional development (CPD) event at the Landesakademie in Stuttgart to over 25 teachers. The seminars provided an opportunity for the German teachers to listen and pick up technical words that sometimes are hard to translate from German to English.

In Germany, teachers who teach English also have to teach a vocational subject such as Mechanical Engineering and Motor Vehicle. However, teachers often find it hard to translate more technical words within those subjects such as poristry, propulsion and refrigerant.

Speaking about the trip, John Sheron said: “We really enjoyed the experience and we feel we went down very well amongst the attendees. It’s nice to know that our presentations have left 25 German teachers feeling more confident about delivering classes to their students in English.”

The sessions also provided an opportunity for the German teachers to gain some best practice skills in delivering presentations to students in English.

The trip was part of the Colleges ongoing partnership with Stuttgart thanks to town twinning.
