Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting

AAT is the world's leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide. It is the UK's largest awarding body of skills-based qualifications in accounting.

The Level 2 AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting is designed for those who wish to develop both the theoretical knowledge and the practical skills needed to pursue a successful career or to progress onto further study in accounting.

You will gain a broad and thorough introduction to accountancy whilst developing your skills in finance administration, bookkeeping, using accounting software and purchasing.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in January.

You will attend College on Tuesday from 9.30am - 4.30pm for one year.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will explore various aspects of accountancy to develop your skills and knowledge.

You will study the following:

  • Bookkeeping transaction
  • Bookkeeping controls
  • Elements of costing
  • Working effectively in finance
  • Using accounting software

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

The course is assessed through computer based assessments at the end of each unit. You will also undertake an end of year synoptic test once all units have been completed.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You must have achieved GCSEs at grade 4 or above (equivalent to grade C or above) in English and maths, or the equivalent.

All new applicants for an AAT course at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

What are the course fees?

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding. For more information, please visit our dedicated Financial Support pages. In addition to the course fees you will also need to pay an exam fee.

AAT membership fees are payable to the awarding body, and are not included in the course costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course you may wish to progress onto further study by completing our Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting. Alternatively you may wish to seek out employment within entry level accountancy roles.
