Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting

Accounting Technicians are the skilled support staff working in accounting and finance. They work in the public sector, industry and commerce, and in the offices of accounting practices. The AAT award offers a structured training scheme which develops the competence required for AAT membership.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in September and takes 12 months to complete.

St Helens College offers a flexible timetable with both daytime and evening study options.

What will I study?

To achieve this level 3 Diploma in Accounting, you will study the following units:

  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final accounts preparation
  • Management accounting costing
  • Indirect tax
  • Ethics for accountants
  • Spreadsheets for accounting

How is it assessed?

The course will be examined by computer based assessments for each of the first four units. The synoptic test will cover all six units at the end of the course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

For entry onto this level 3 course, applicants should hold a level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting or an equivalent qualification. All new applicants for AAT at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

What are the course fees?

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding. For more information on the financial support that may be available, please click here.

If you are aged 19+ you could also choose to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £21,000 per year. AAT membership fees are payable to the awarding body, and are not included in the course costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

After successfully completing this course, you could choose to progress onto our level 4 AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting course.
