Level 3 AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting

AAT is the world's leading professional membership body for accounting technicians, with over 100,000 members worldwide. It is the UK's largest awarding body of skills-based qualifications in accounting.

The AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting introduces more complex accounting tasks, such as maintaining cost accounting records, and the preparation of reports and returns.

It will introduce more complex financial processes, including final accounts for sole traders and partnerships, reports and returns and professional ethics.

As a standalone qualification, or as a first step towards the intermediate and advanced levels, it will allow you to move up to further study in accountancy and finance.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in September.

You will attend College on Thursday from 9.30am - 4.30pm or Tuesday and Thursday from 6.00pm - 9.00pm for one year.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

You will study the following:

  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final accounts preparation
  • Management accounting costing
  • Indirect tax
  • Ethics for accountants
  • Spreadsheets for accounting

You will study alongside like-minded people in classes delivered by friendly supportive tutors.

How is it assessed?

The course will be examined by computer based assessments for each of the first four units. The synoptic test will cover all six units at the end of the course.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

For entry onto this level 3 course, applicants should hold a level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting or an equivalent qualification. Offers of a place on the course will not be based solely upon academic qualifications alone and related skills gained in the workplace will also be considered.

All new applicants for AAT at St Helens College are required to undertake a centre devised numeracy and literacy assessment and attend an interview.

If you are aged 19+ you could also choose to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year. AAT membership fees are payable to the awarding body, and are not included in the course costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

After successfully completing this course, you could choose to progress onto our level 4 AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting course.
