CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) Strategic Level

The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is the world's leading professional body of management accountants, offering the most relevant accounting qualification for a career in business. Their blend of management and financial accounting with business focused subjects produces confident Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA) who can lead their organisations to success.

Develop the skills required to make informed business strategy decisions by completing the CIMA Strategic Level course. Picking up where the Management Level course finished, the Strategic Level course takes students through several disciplines and techniques that will help develop the skills required to make medium-term strategic decisions, and finally completed their journey to CIMA Professional status.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has start dates in September 2018, taking one year to complete.

What will I study?

Strategic level is the third level of the professional qualification and consists of four exams.

  • E3 Strategic Management - You will learn how to develop the skills and abilities needed by strategic leaders to direct and achieve the long-term success of their organisations. You will also cover formulating and implementing strategy and how to successfully lead and manage change.

  • P3 Risk Management - You will learn how to identify, evaluate and respond to risks that could impact on the implementation of strategy, how to develop the competencies required to analyse and apply the techniques, processes and internal control systems required to manage risk and how to manage risks associated with both cash flows and capital investment decisions.

  • F3 Financial Strategy - You will learn how to formulate and implement financial strategy to support the overall strategy of the organisation, how to develop skills to evaluate and recommend alternative sources of finance and how to develop competencies required to value investment opportunities including divestments, mergers and acquisitions.

  • Strategic Case Study - For this module you will apply the knowledge you have gained in the three subjects to reflect real-life work situations. Students must complete all three objective tests within this level before they can sit the case study assessment.

CIMA will test a variety of skills including research and analysis, how to present information, and communication skills. The move to more case study assessments has been deliberate to test a wider range of skills and integrated learning across the topics by reflecting real work situations. The case studies consolidate the cross discipline learning at each level.

How is it assessed?

The assessments comprise calculations, short answers and essays. Candidates are allowed to see some of the case study information and associated databases before the assessment and will encounter fresh information during the assessment.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of the course is £2122. Additional professional body membership and exam fees will need to be paid direct to CIMA.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

To become a fully qualified Management Accountant, you have to complete (and pass) the Strategic-level, and fulfil the work-based practical experience.
