Intermediate Short Course in Photography

Following on from the beginners course, the intermediate course covers more advanced digital photography techniques, post editing skills and basic darkroom techniques. The course has been designed to help students gain more control and skills using their digital photography equipment and at the same time be more creative.

The course covers using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom post edited software, basic studio lighting and traditional darkroom techniques. You will be expected to attend field trips (weather permitting) to different locations, this to help you develop your shooting skills. You will be required to complete a series of creative projects, photographic research and build a digital portfolio.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This part-time, evening course has start dates throughout the year and will take 11 weeks to complete.

  • Wednesday 20th September 2017 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Wednesday 10th January 2018 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Wednesday 18th April 2018 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm

The first week of the course will be induction and enrolment. This will be followed by ten weeks of theory and practical based study.

The course is held at St Helens College Town Centre Campus.

What will I study?

You will study photography using a range of materials techniques and processes including an introduction to traditional darkroom techniques, DSLR camera operation, digital post editing techniques and various projects designed to boost your creativity.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy the course. All you need is commitment and enthusiasm.

The total cost of the course is £130.00.
