Beginners' Short Course in Photography

Whether you are new to taking photographs or a keen amateur, this introductory course covers basic digital photography, DSLR camera operation, basic editing and various projects designed for beginners. The course has been created to be help students to quickly and easily learn photography skills.

Gain introductory-level technical skills in camera handling and photography. Build your confidence by learning about exposure, shutter speed, aperture and different types of lighting and explore composition skills to produce visually interesting images.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This part-time, evening course has start dates throughout the year and will take 11 weeks to complete.

  • Tuesday 19th September 2017 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Tuesday 9th January 2018 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm
  • Tuesday 17th April 2018 - 6.00pm - 8.00pm

The first week of the course will be induction and enrolment. This will be followed by ten weeks of theory and practical based study.

The course is held at St Helens College Town Centre Campus.

What will I study?

You will study photography using a range of materials techniques and processes including an introduction to basic digital photography, DSLR camera operation, basic editing and various projects designed for beginners.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come along and enjoy the course. All you need is commitment and enthusiasm.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of the course is £130.00.
