HNC Business and Management

This course is perfect if you are looking to take the first steps into employment or seeking career development opportunities. The HNC Business and Management course is aimed at developing you as a professional, self-reflecting individual who will be capable of meeting the demands of employers in the business sector and to adapt to a constantly changing world.

This part-time qualification aims to widen access to higher education and enhance your career prospects in the local, national and global market in a diverse range of career opportunities, such as Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This part-time course has start dates in January and September.

You will attend the College on a Monday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm for two years.

What will I study?

The course allows you to explore key principles of marketing, organisational behaviour, and business analysis. You investigate the environments in which businesses operate, law as it applies to business, as well as management reporting and the management of professional development.

You can learn how to effectively communicate with and lead people, how to manage activities to achieve results, and how to manage financial resources.

You will study the following core units:

  • Business and the Business Environment
  • Marketing essentials
  • HRM
  • Management and Operations
  • Management Accounting
  • Managing a Successful Business
  • Plus 2 additional modules.

How is it assessed?

Assessment is employed throughout the programme as an individual and a group. Assessment includes coursework assignments and some written examinations. The performance of each student will be assessed continuously within each unit, through completion of a number of assignments. There are some modules which may involve in class assessment methods.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should possess one of the following:

  • at least one A level pass with appropriate supporting GCSEs at grade C or above.
  • a BTEC National Certificate or Diploma, or a GNVQ Advanced, in any discipline
  • AVCE Single/Double Award in any discipline
  • any qualifications deemed equivalent to the above

Candidates will be required to complete a diagnostic literacy and numeracy assessment prior to enrolment, for more information click here.

What are the course fees?

Tuition fees are £3000 and you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Government to cover the full cost of fees. Alternatively, your employer may agree to cover the costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course you can progress on to the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Business at University Centre St Helens or directly onto the second year of an appropriate degree at University.

You will gain the knowledge and practical skills to demonstrate to employers your potential as a clear thinking, analytical individual with a good grasp of current business challenges and opportunities.
