Cooking for Christmas

Cooking at Christmas can be an enjoyable occurrence or a culinary nightmare. Let us help you make life a little simpler and show you how to make your Christmas Lunch without the stress this year. The course provides you with an enjoyable experience intended to develop your culinary flair through demonstrations and plenty of hands on cooking.

Using fresh seasonal local produce will provide a strong foundation on which to build culinary innovation. Forget Hell's kitchen, the only heat in this kitchen comes from the combination of ingredients that you will use as part of your culinary gastronomy. You will learn culinary tips in making food a fun and enjoyable past time.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start on Tuesday 14th November 2017. You will attend college for four weeks every Tuesday evening from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

What will I study?

During the course you will explore various ingredients using fresh local produce to encourage you to develop your own creative culinary skills and create that perfect Christmas lunch. Some of the dishes you will learn may include:

  • Stuffed Turkey crown with homemade gravy and traditional English trimmings
  • Sugar glazed carrots with ginger, Red cabbage Flemish style and Hassle back potatoes cooked in goose fat with fresh thyme and rosemary
  • Christmas biscuits, Christmas pudding and orange snowmen pancakes
  • Turkey and vegetable pie with home- made rough puff pastry

During the course you will develop awareness of health and safety aspects in relation to the preparation of food, food and safety awareness, practical knife skills, stove control and will learn logical and coherent methods of work in producing sound and interesting food.

How is it assessed?

There is no formal assessment. The course is aimed to increase your own knowledge of the subject matter.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements. All you will need is commitment and enthusiasm. As with all our leisure courses the main emphasis is to come and enjoy.

What are the course fees?

The total cost for the course is £120.00. The course price is inclusive of all of the ingredients that you will need for each session. You can take home your creations to enjoy.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

You may progress onto our other Colours Cookery School courses or alternatively you may wish to pursue an accredited qualification in this subject which will allow you to practice your skills in the industry.
