Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Information Technology

With this course, you'll be studying the theory behind information technology whilst gaining practical skills, investigating computer systems, understanding website production and management and developing your knowledge of managing networks and programming.

You'll also be able to study games, software and security, to discover what your strengths are within IT and what interests you the most.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and offers a one-year, 90-credit diploma route or a two-year, level 3 extended diploma route.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Computer systems
  • Communication and employability
  • Website production and management
  • Event driven programming
  • Managing computer networks
  • Developing computer games
  • Installing and upgrading software
  • System security
  • Website customisation

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed throughout the year based on a range of practical and written work.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English language and maths.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to University Centre St Helens to study FdSc Computing or choose to study a different degree elsewhere.

Alternatively, you might decide to gain employment. There are so many opportunities in this growing industry.
