Level 1 ITQ Certificate in IT User Skills
This course is perfect for helping you to improve your ability across a range of IT applications. It will help you to learn new computer skills and gain a valuable, recognised qualification.
It's perfect for both absolute beginners who just want to broaden their knowledge or, those who want to build upon existing skills to gain a practical qualification that is attractive to employers.
The course is extremely flexible with start dates throughout the year. Learning takes place at your own pace so regardless at how quickly you learn, you will feel comfortable. On this course you are fully supported and guided by friendly, helpful tutors.
When will I start the course and how long will it take?
With flexible start dates you can start a course at any time during the year and study during the day or on an evening.
Ordinarily the runs for 36 weeks but you could choose to complete the qualification sooner with more intensive study, or take longer by studying at a more casual pace.
Study times available are:
- Mondays: 1.00pm - 4.00pm and 6.00pm - 9.00pm.
- Wednesdays: 6.00pm - 9.00pm
- Thursdays: 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Further time slots are available during the day from Tuesday to Thursday and we can advise on this upon enrolment at the College.
What will I study?
This qualification aims to develop your knowledge of standard IT hardware and develop your skills using Microsoft Office software. You will develop knowledge of different software applications and use them to complete tasks effectively.
- Word Processing - how to format documents
- Presentations - creating a presentation
- Spreadsheets - how to use formulae
- Database - how to create a database and use queries
This course is suitable for those who have basic IT skills or, those who would like to broaden their application knowledge to produce simple documents. It also provides a thorough introduction for those wishing to go onto more advanced studies and a higher level qualification.
How is it assessed?
The qualification will be achieved by completing an assignment at the end of each unit.
Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?
No formal qualifications are required although some experience of a basic use of IT and using a computer would be an advantage. English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career, so a willingness to improve this is desirable.
What are the course fees?
Course fees are dependent on personal circumstances. If you are in receipt of a qualifying benefit including Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), Employment Support Allowance (ESA) you may be eligible to get up to 100% of your course fees covered.

Successfully achieving certification in ITQ can open the door to a whole range of employment and career progression opportunities. This qualification is widely recognised by employers. You could choose to progress onto the Level 2 ITQ Certificate in IT User Skills.
