At St Helens College, you'll study at our Technology Centre Campus, in a purpose built environment with real, made-to-scale room structures for you to decorate, plaster, renovate and build in. We have just spent over £5 million to make sure you have everything you need to learn your new skills, including all of the latest industry standard equipment – the same as you’ll find when you start working.
You will benefit
Our tutors have worked in the industry for a number of years, so you can have confidence in knowing that you are being taught by industry experts with fantastic employer links. As well as increasing your employability, you'll build a great deal of work experience and have the chance to build new working contacts, friendships, relevant knowledge and life-long skills.
You will succeed
Working in construction could take you in various directions. You could find yourself providing repairs, building extensions, fitting new kitchens or bathrooms in people's homes or you might work for a contractor, building on a larger scale, such as new houses, offices, restaurants, hospitals or schools. Many students have even become self-employed, running their own business. Whichever career pathway you choose, St Helens College will support you from building the initial skills and knowledge to supporting you to secure employment.
You will stand out
Students are encouraged to compete in nationally recognised, skills competitions to showcase their skills within their chosen trade. Our students have been finalists in the national SkillBuild competition for the past three years.
According to a report from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) the North West's construction sector growth over the next five years could deliver almost 5,000 new jobs a year. This creates a real demand for skilled construction workers across all trades. There is a particular shortage of architects, technical engineers and managers, and of craftspeople in all trades, primarily due to the strength of the housing sector.
