Level 1 Diploma in Plastering

This course introduces you to the world of plastering within the construction industry. It is a great course if you're looking for an introduction to plastering.

You'll explore a range of building methods and construction technology, developing skills in wet plastering and dry lining. You'll learn how to prepare surfaces, mix plaster materials and apply and set plaster coats.

Plastering has fantastic job prospects and could provide you with a career for life.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

If you are joining this course from school, the course will start in September and will take one year to complete through a daytime study mode.

For adult students aged over 19, the course starts in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend college for two evenings per week from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Applying plaster materials to internal backgrounds
  • Forming sand and cement screeds
  • Health, safety and welfare in construction and associated industries
  • Knowledge of construction technology
  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Preparing background surfaces and plaster materials
  • Producing components from moulds

You'll learn how to prepare surfaces, mix plaster materials and apply and set plaster coats. In addition to this, you will have the opportunity to gain some work experience within the construction industry.

How is it assessed?

During this course, you'll be assessed by a range of practical and online assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any formal qualifications just passion and a commitment to your studies.

If you are aged 16 - 18 and if you do not have grade 4 (equivalent to GCSE grade C) or above in maths and English, you'll be required to complete these qualifications alongside your studies. You must also have a passion for working in the construction industry and commitment to your studies.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course is the first step towards launching a career as a successful plasterer.

Upon completion, you could choose to progress onto our level 2 diploma in Plastering in order to advance your skills. Alternatively, you could secure an apprenticeship or seek employment in the industry.
