Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production

Write, storyboard, cast and edit your own your very own productions, including music videos, short films or even documentaries!

Using HD video cameras and sound and lighting equipment, you will film on location in our studio, developing your practical camera skills and video editing skills.

You will also have the opportunity to explore audience reception theory, to discover what really engages and interests an audience.

Our Creative Media alumnus, Flavio, completed this course and has since progressed to University Centre St Helens to study Media Production.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take two years to complete.

What will I study?

You will study a wide range of media-based topics which allows you to develop your creativity and technical skills including:

  • Pre-production, scripting, storyboarding and casting
  • Practical camera skills, soundtrack and editing post-production video editing using the latest Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Web design
  • Factual/documentary television production
  • Photoshop/desktop based skills
  • Key concepts of theoretical media
  • TV Studio production with our new state-of-the-art studio

How is it assessed?

Creative Media at St Helens College is 100% digital. We work professionally via Office 365 implementing a variety of different assessment methods from written reports, production folders and scripts to final productions (video, web and print) and camera work.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English and/or maths.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2019), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to FdSc Media Production at University Centre St Helens, accredited by university partner, University of Central Lancashire.

Alternatively, you may choose to study a different degree at another university or secure employment in the industry!
