Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production

With this course, you'll learn everything you need to know to achieve a successful career in the media industry.

You'll be planning and editing your own productions, including music videos, TV advertisements or even documentaries. To do this, you will be using HD video cameras and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, whilst filming both on location or live in our studio.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and offers a one-year, 90-credit diploma route or a two-year, level 3 extended diploma route.

What will I study?

You will study a wide range of media-based topics which allows you to develop your creativity and technical skills including:

  • Pre-production, scripting, storyboarding and casting
  • Practical camera skills, soundtrack and editing post-production video editing using the latest Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Web design
  • Factual/documentary television production
  • Photoshop/desktop based skills
  • Key concepts of theoretical media
  • TV Studio production with our new state-of-the-art studio

How is it assessed?

Creative Media at St Helens College is 100% digital. We work professionally via Office 365 implementing a variety of different assessment methods from written reports, production folders and scripts to final productions (video, web and print) and camera work.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English and maths.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to FdSc Media Production at University Centre St Helens, accredited by university partner, University of Central Lancashire.

Alternatively, you may choose to study a different degree at another university or secure employment in the industry.
