HNC Creative Media Production

The HNC in Creative Media Production offers you a vocational progression route into higher level Study. With a broad media base that reflects a professional working environment, standards and experience needed in order for you to be able to find employment within the industry.

You will have the opportunity to combine theory and practice in an exciting and stimulating way, developing yourself as an individual media producer as well as gaining a sound understanding of professional practice in the ever growing media industry using our very own TV studio and fully equipped Apple Mac suites.

This course is perfect for individuals who wish to develop their professional level skills in Media Production leading to employment in the media sector.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has start dates in January and September. You will study part-time of an evening for two years.

What will I study?

The HNC Creative Media Production will develop your professional skills both theoretically and practically. It covers a wide range of units designed to develop skills in a number of different areas of media.

The units will educate in the theoretical aspects of different productions (print production, film studies, sound production, advertising) combined with a strong practical element featuring video production work in a state-of-the-art TV studio, camera skills, editing with industry standard software.

Additionally, you will work with Adobe Creative Cloud programs (including Photoshop) designing print media to professional standards.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through both practical and theory-based, in order to equip you with the skills required for employment in the industry as well as the background expertise to thrive in the sector.

Assessments during the course include professional presentations, pitches, observations, work- experience feedback, client feedback and practical tasks.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You are expected to have a minimum of a level 3 qualification in a Media related subject achieving a merit at BTEC or C grade at A Level. You should also have a grade C or above in GCSE English and maths.

What are the course fees?

Tuition fees for this undergraduate qualification are £2,300 per annum for students enrolling within the 2016/17 academic year.

Alternatively, your employer may agree to cover the cost of this qualification.

Subject to eligibility, students can apply for a Tuition Fee Loan from the Government to cover the full cost of tuition fees. You may also be eligible to apply for additional funding to help with living costs.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Students may wish to move directly into professional practice, seeking employment in the media industry. A significant portion of the course is dedicated to professional development through portfolio production, networking and work experience. Students will have the opportunity to seek work experience with local companies in order to strengthen their CV and showreel.

Additionally, you may wish to continue with their academic studies 'topping up' your HNC to a HND through a period of additional study.
