Our BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering part-time degree course will provide you with the engineering knowledge and skills needed to improve productivity, reduce costs of manufacture and ensure products and services are delivered to industry when required.

Manufacturing Engineers are creative individuals who are able to integrate knowledge based on mathematics, science, design, materials, manufacturing, business and management in order to solve problems that provide infrastructure for goods and services to our society.

With this in mind, this degree has been developed to provide a general manufacturing engineering education, including modern day control and automation modules to produce graduates with a strong academic background, ready to enter a cutting edge industry.

This qualification has been developed to meet the demands of local employers. It allows direct progression from HNC or HND courses in a relevant engineering discipline.

Course in-depth

What will I study?

Year 1

In the first year you will explore materials science and engineering alongside the processes and quality of manufacturing. You will also discover mathematics and statistics and engineering computation. Additionally, you will look at robotics and automation in manufacturing.

Year 2

The second year will give you an even deeper understand of the manufacturing process looking at computer aided design, manufacture and testing. You will also explore composite science technology as well as surfaces coatings and technology.

Year 3

In the third year you will explore applied CAD and CAM as well as develop your knowledge of the manufacturing process. There is also a range of topics for you to tailor your studies as well as an individual project, working on your own design, make and test activity.

How will I study?

Learning will be theoretical and practical lectures, workshops, seminars, self-directed study, written work, presentations and group work.

Several of the level 6 (final year) modules will be delivered at the University of Chester's Thornton Science Park.

You will be supported by a range of resources including library materials and IT access.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is employed throughout the duration of the course through a combination of assignments, seminar presentations, case studies, practical work and end of semester formal examinations.

Who will be teaching me?

An experienced team with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of engineering and manufacturing. Lecturers also have experience of working in industry.

Our BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering course is delivered at the newly refurbished STEM Centre, Technology Campus which has recently received significant investment. The course is well-established as well as well-respected part-time qualification.
