Our BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering part-time degree course will provide you with the engineering knowledge and skills needed to improve productivity, reduce costs of manufacture and ensure products and services are delivered to industry when required.

Manufacturing Engineers are creative individuals who are able to integrate knowledge based on mathematics, science, design, materials, manufacturing, business and management in order to solve problems that provide infrastructure for goods and services to our society.

With this in mind, this degree has been developed to provide a general manufacturing engineering education, including modern day control and automation modules to produce graduates with a strong academic background, ready to enter a cutting edge industry.

This qualification has been developed to meet the demands of local employers. It allows direct progression from HNC or HND courses in a relevant engineering discipline.

Course in-depth

What will I study?

Year 1

In the first year you will explore Manufacturing Processes and Quality, Engineering Computation and Mathematics and Statistics. You will also study Computer Aided Design, Manufacture and Test and will undertake an industrial based project.

Year 2

In year two students study a range of modules, including Experiments and Modelling for Engineering, Advanced Materials, Science and Engineering, Applied CAD and CAM. You will also explore Manufacturing Processes at an advanced level and begin to understand the principles of operation of robotic equipment.

Year 3

In the final year, students undertake an individual project, which provides the opportunity to apply the knowledge learnt throughout your degree and provides the opportunity to demonstrate a thorough understanding of each module. Composite Science and Technology, Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Product Design are also studied in third year.

How will I study?

Learning will be theoretical and practical lectures, workshops, seminars, self-directed study, written work, presentations and group work.

Several of the level 6 (final year) modules will be delivered at the University of Chester's Thornton Science Park.

You will be supported by a range of resources including library materials and IT access.

Additionally, you will have access to a Uni Hub, a dedicated learning environment for degree students.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment occurs on a regular basis for the duration of the programme, through a range of methods. Examples include assignments, seminar presentations, case studies, practical work, laboratory reports, and end of semester formal examinations.

Who will be teaching me?

An experienced team with a wide range of interests reflecting all areas of engineering and manufacturing. Lecturers also have experience of working in industry.

Our BEng (Hons) Manufacturing Engineering course is delivered at the newly refurbished STEM Centre, Technology Campus which has recently received significant investment. The course is well-established as well as well-respected part-time qualification.
