Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technologies - Electrical Engineering (Learning for Life)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

With this advanced course, you will gain an in-depth understanding of electrical and electronic principles and digital and microelectronics to prepare you for a successful career.

Developing your knowledge and practical skills in our specialist workshops, you will explore engineering mathematics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and panel wiring for engineering application.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

For those aged 19+, you will attend college for one day per week for two years.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Electrical and electronic principles
  • Engineering environmental health and safety
  • Engineering mathematics
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Electrical testing and commissioning
  • Installation of electrical equipment

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of assignments and one external examination.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English, Maths and Science.

If you are aged 19+ then we would accept industry experience in place of formal qualifications.

What are the course fees?

If you are aged 19 or over, course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first full level 1 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you could advance your studies by progressing on to the HNC in Engineering at University Centre St Helens.

Alternatively, you may want to look for work in the industry, either in design or maintenance of electrical control systems, machinery and equipment, or you could even progress on to an apprenticeship and earn whilst you learn.
