HND Manufacturing Engineering

The HND Manufacturing Engineering is for individuals who already work in engineering or have completed the HNC who wish to obtain a higher level qualification. It's ideal those wishing to go on to university to top-up their qualification to a full honours degree.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts in September. You will be required to study on one extended day per week (typically from 9.00am to 8.00pm) for one year.

What will I study?

The HND Manufacturing Engineering offers you the opportunity to study the discipline of mechanical engineering at technical level, and as such provide you with a qualification that reflects your theoretical and practical knowledge.

You will study the following units:

  • Further Analytical Methods
  • Project Management
  • Programmable Logic Controllers
  • Quality Assurance and Management
  • CAD / CAM
  • Design for Manufacturing

This course is delivered at the newly refurbished STEM Centre, Technology Campus which has recently received significant investment.

How is it assessed?

All units are assessed by a combination of assignments including phase tests, classwork, case studies and formal end of session written examinations.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have completed the HNC Manufacturing Engineering.

What are the course fees?

For 2017 entry, tuition fees for part-time study on this undergraduate qualification are £2100 per annum.

Subject to eligibility, students can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Government to cover the full cost of tuition fees.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

The HND Manufacturing Engineering provides you with the skills demanded by industry. It opens up the possibility of a career over a wide range of engineering disciplines, for example engineering design and development, product development, installation and maintenance, project engineering, production planning and control and technical sales.

The qualification also provides you with the opportunity to seek career development into senior positions in national and international companies.

Additionally, you can use the HND Manufacturing Engineering to top-up your qualification to a full honours degree.
