ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) (Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2)

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) can help you if English is your second language and you are living or planning to settle in the UK.

The course is offered at different levels to develop and improve your English Language skills.

You will develop your speaking and listening, reading and writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation for communication in everyday life, education and work.

Our ESOL courses can also help provide a pathway to a wider range of courses in Further and Higher Education.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course has start dates in January and September and takes 1 year to complete. There is one 3 hour lesson per week.

What will I study?

The course will help you to develop your communication skills for everyday situations and help you to live, work and study successfully in the United Kingdom. Skills that you will concentrate on are:

  • Speaking and listening
  • Reading and writing
  • Vocabulary
  • Punctuation and grammar

How is it assessed?

You will gain a City & Guilds ESOL Skills for Life qualification.

You will take three exams: a reading exam, a writing exam and a speaking and listening exam. You will be fully supported by your tutor.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You don't need any previous qualifications to undertake this course. However, in order to determine the most suitable level of study for your needs, you will undertake an initial assessment and attend an interview prior to entry onto the course.
