Level 2 Certificate in Gym Instructing (Adult Course)

This course is suitable for students aged 19 and over.

This qualification is one of the most popular entry-level qualifications in the industry. It is ideally suited for those with a passion for health and fitness, who are looking for an exciting career change or career progression.

Gyms, leisure centres and health clubs are vibrant and fast-paced places to work, and they require motivated and knowledgeable professionals to teach exercise to their members.

During the course, you will be undergoing training yourself, and learning about anatomy and physiology, how to lead fitness sessions and plan an effective training programme for a client. This course also forms part of the first stage in achieving the highly desirable personal trainer status. This is the prerequisite qualification for entry on to the level 3 Personal Trainer programme.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and takes up to 18 weeks to complete. You will attend College on a Thursday evening, from 6.00pm - 9.00pm.

This course will take place at our Town Centre Campus, Water Street, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

What will I study?

The course covers a wide-range of theory and practical elements of the role, and is delivered in an engaging and interactive way.

  • Health and Safety
  • Fitness Principles
  • Planning
  • Instructing

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of multiple choice examinations, practical observations, written and oral questions, assignment work, short tests, work experience and workbooks.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No previous qualifications are required. However, a keen interest and some experience in gym-based fitness and exercise is essential.

The total cost of this course is £790.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the necessary skills and knowledge to launch a successful career within the fitness industry as a Gym Instructor.

Being a Gym Instructor means that no two days are the same. It is an incredibly varied role that could have you doing anything from performing inductions for members, maintaining exercise equipment, giving diet advice, and planning sessions.
