Level 3 Active IQ Certificate in Personal Training

This course is suitable to those who have already gained a level 2 qualification in gym instructing and are wishing to gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a Personal Trainer.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will commence in September and will take 36 weeks to complete. Attendance is one evening a week 6.00pm - 9.00pm on a Monday. There is also a requirement to attend two Saturday's during the course for assessment purposes.

What will I study?

You will be taught by industry professionals and you will be based in the College's fully equipped Sports Department. The course will provide you with both the practical hands on expertise and theoretical knowledge needed to launch your career in Personal Training.

The course covers:

  • Anatomy and physiology for exercise and health
  • Health appraisal and lifestyle and fitness assessment
  • How to provide nutritional advice for personal training clients
  • Exercise prescription and programme design including how to conduct personal training sessions using advanced training techniques

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of multi choice exams, client case study work and observation of conducting a personal training session with a client.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You must have previously completed a level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing (gym) or an NVQ level 2 in Exercise and Fitness. Experience of working in a fitness environment is desirable but not essential.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon completion of this course there is the possibility to progress onto the Foundation Degree in Exercise, Health and Fitness though this is dependent on other academic qualifications and/or experience. You could also go on to complete a level 3 qualification in Sports Massage or seek out employment as a personal trainer.
