Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Dental Nursing

This is an excellent opportunity for those who are looking to launch a career in dentistry.

You will focus on direct, chair side work and providing support during a range of dental treatments to gain a strong understanding of dental equipment, instruments and materials.

The knowledge and theory behind dentistry will be provided once a week within the classroom at St Helens College. In addition to this, students will gain valuable work experience within a local dental practice four days a week.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has start dates throughout the year and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • First aid and medical emergency
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Decontamination procedure
  • Infection control
  • Assessment of oral health
  • Radiography
  • Restorative dentistry
  • Prosthesis
  • Endodontics
  • Extraction and minor oral surgery

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through portfolio building, tutor observation and assignments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English, maths and one science subject.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

If you are aged 19+ you could choose to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees enabling you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will be able to register with the General Dental Council (GDC).
