Level 2 Certificate in Preparation for Dental Nursing

This certificate is an excellent opportunity for those who are looking to launch a career in dentistry.

You will focus on direct, chair side work and introductions to oral hygiene, facial anatomy, cross infection and will gain a strong understanding of dental equipment, instruments and materials.

The knowledge and theory behind dentistry will be provided in a class room environment and our specialist dental clinic. Work experience will be organised for those within a dental setting with a view to progression on to a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Patient and customer care
  • First aid and medical emergency
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Infection control
  • Basic assessment of oral health
  • Basic facial anatomy

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed through portfolio building, tutor observation and assignments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have GCSEs a grade D or above in English and maths.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2016), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Dental Nursing, or a level 3 qualification within health and social care.

Alternatively, you may choose to pursue a lower level career within practice management or support.
