Level 3 Diploma in Horticulture

With this course, you'll be able to take your skills and knowledge of a centre-based environment to allow you to progress within the Horticulture industry or progress to further learning and/or training. You'll develop underpinning knowledge whilst practising skills that could be used within employment in the Horticulture sector.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September 2016 and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Understanding the principles of plant science
  • Understanding the principles of soil science
  • Undertake Horticultural production techniques-Protected
  • Manage plant propagation activities *Understand the principles of plant health and protection
  • Undertake Estate skills
  • Manage advanced nursery stock production
  • Establish and manage exterior plant displays

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by practical and written assignments. There are no written examinations.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have completed the level 2 in diploma horticulture or an equivalent qualification. You should have at least two GCSEs at grade C or above.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you've finished this course you could go on to university to advance your studies. You could even begin your career in amenity horticulture where you'll look after the recreational parks, gardens and sports areas all around us.
