Entry Level 3 Skills for Working Life - Land and Plants

This course provides a basic understanding of recognising various types of plants, how to care for them, how to handle horticulture tools and also how to maintain fences.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Recognising plants and parts of plants
  • Caring for horticulture tools
  • Inserting plant material
  • Peparing and planting an area
  • Controlling weeds
  • Filling plant containers
  • Maintaining a fence
  • Constructing a composter and shredding waste vegetation
  • Working safely and identifying hazards
  • Planning and making a journey using public transport
  • Managing your own money
  • Working towards your own goals

How is it assessed?

Assessments are carried out in such a way that you are allowed to work at your own pace. There are no written exams at the end of the course as it is all practical based.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

There are no formal entry requirements.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

However, if you are aged 19 or over, course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19 - 23 and this is your first full level 1 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered. More information can be provided upon application. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have completed this course, you could progress onto the next level of study with us or you may choose to do a traineeship or an apprenticeship.
