Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Food and Beverage Service

This course is suitable forthose who are perhaps seeking a career change or considering establishing their own business and wishing to develop their knowledge as a chef. Taught by industry professionals you will develop your culinary skills and gain a nationally recognised qualification.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

You can start working towards your new qualification at any time during the academic year and will take 36 weeks to complete.

What will I study?

This course will focus on the practical aspects of serving food and beverages whilst gaining a theoretical understanding of the practices taught. The following areas will be covered:

  • Investigating the Catering and Hospitality Industry
  • Health and safety in Catering and Hospitality Industry, including food safety
  • Principles of customer service in Hospitality, Leisure, Travel and Tourism
  • Legislation in the service of food and beverages
  • Menu knowledge and design
  • Principles of beverage product knowledge
  • Handling payments and maintaining the payment point

How is it assessed?

Students will complete a series of observations and short written tests.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

No formal qualifications are necessary but students must be motivated, able to work as part of a team, passionate about food and be committed to studying for at least 13 hours of study per week.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Students can progress onto courses such as Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Hospitality Supervision and Leadership.
