Full NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (NCC)

The NEBOSH National Construction Certificate is aimed at Supervisors, Managers and CDM co-ordinators within the construction industry who are required to ensure that activities under their control are undertaken safely.

It is likely to prove useful for those concerned with the management of buildings, who may need to ensure that contractors are working safely.

The qualification is also appropriate for supervisors and managers working in other industries such as utilities, and even broadcasting, where temporary workplaces are a feature of their activities.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course starts on Thursday 5th October. You will attend College for one evening per week from 5.30pm - 8.30pm for one year.

Discrete dates can be set for employer groups. The cost of course also includes the workbook and exam fee.

What will I study?

You will learn about the main legal requirements relating to health and safety in UK construction work, identification and control of construction workplace hazards, and the practical application of this knowledge. The syllabus is mapped to the National Occupational Standards for Health and Safety owned by ENTO and is supported by Construction Skills.

The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:

  • Managing and controlling hazards in construction activities (NCC1)
  • Health and safety practical application (NCC2)

How is it assessed?

NCC1 is a taught unit, assessed by a two-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of ten 'short-answer' questions and one 'long-answer' question. All questions are compulsory. Candidate scripts are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.

Unit NCC2 is assessed by a two-hour practical examination, carried out in the candidate's own workplace to test the application of taught health and safety principles in a construction workplace. The assessment must normally be taken within 14 days of a written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by the course provider and must be marked by an experienced and qualified safety professional.

It should also be noted that the examination includes a requirement to write a short report. The qualification has been unitised and the content revised in line with the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should possess basic numeracy and reasonable literacy and report-writing skills, normally at least to level 2 standard.

Extra support is offered in exam technique and study skills.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £1,450. This includes all examination fees.

There are a number of payment options including an interest-free payment plan with a monthly direct debit payment.

If your company are willing to fund your course, we can help you to arrange this.

What can I go on to do once I have completed the course?
