Forklift Truck Licence Training Novice Operator

(Reach or Counterbalance)

This course is specifically designed for operators who have little or no previous experience of forklift truck operation and wish to achieve a nationally recognised operator qualification.

The Northern Logistics Academy is a logistics and transport training specialist, based in the Northwest of England, delivering sector specific training and qualifications. We are RTITB accredited for the delivery of Fork Lift Truck training.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

This course has various delivery dates throughout the year. The course takes 5 days to complete with 7 hours of learning per day.

This course will be delivered at Northern Logistics Academy's dedicated training centre in St Helens (Langtree Street, St Helens WA9 1AR).

The course is delivered to groups depending on minimum numbers mandatory for the course. If required, we are able to set discrete dates for employers upon request.

What will I study?

This course will cover all aspects of operating a fork lift truck from theory to practical and provide you with the knowledge and skills to work safely.

  • Introduction into Forklift Truck Training
  • Theory including forklift truck stability including a safety video
  • Practical training in the safe operation of the forklift truck
  • Forklifts and the law
  • Operator's safety code
  • Basic and advanced steering, stacking and de-stacking
  • Picking up and setting down
  • Main Component identification
  • Pre-use inspection and reporting
  • Practical skills test
  • Carrying out a pre-shift inspection check and understand the importance of such checks.
  • Operating the Forklift Truck within the safety limits defined by the manufacturer
  • Safely stacking and de-stacking from various heights with various loads
  • Manoeuvring a laden Forklift Truck in a narrow confined area

How is it assessed?

A written associated knowledge test follows a practical assessment.

What are the course fees?

The total cost of this course is £520 per person.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course you will be awarded an RTITB experienced operator certificate of training and a RTITB ID card which recognizes your national qualification to operate a counterbalance or reach truck.
