Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Refinishing

This specialist course is designed for those who wish to gain essential knowledge and skills to become a vehicle body paint refinisher working on a wide range of vehicles.

Based in our automotive hub, you will learn how to prepare and apply paint, understand how to diagnose and correct paint faults and be able to establish paint defects.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

  • Preparation and application procedures
  • Diagnosis and rectifying of paint faults
  • Working with plastic materials and components
  • Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
  • Establishing paint defects
  • Applying topcoats and completing
  • refinishing colour matching
  • Knowledge of water-based paints

We will also support you to find work experience within local automotive companies.

How is it assessed?

You'll be assessed in a motor vehicle workshop environment, completing practical and written assessments and online multiple choice tests, in addition to e-portfolio building.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You'll need four GCSE's at grade 4 or above, including English and maths and a level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification. English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

If you are aged 19 - 23 and this is your first full level 3 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered. More information can be provided upon application.

If you are aged 19 or over, you could also choose to apply for a 19+ Advanced Learner Loan to cover part of your course fees. An Advanced Learner Loan enables you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility isn't dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments don't start until you have finished your course and earn over £21,000 per year.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be ready to start your career in the automotive industry and may even want to look at management opportunities in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist refinishing companies.
