Level 2 Diploma in Vehicle Accident Repair (Paint)

This course enhances the knowledge and skills previously gained at level 1, with a more in-depth focus on vehicle accident paint repair.

You will be learning how to prepare metals and other surfaces for repair and discovering how to apply fillers and foundation materials to vehicles before going on to repair paint defects.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Repair techniques
  • Health and safety in the automotive environment
  • Automotive paint mixing and application
  • Spray gun set up and techniques
  • Rectification of paint defects
  • Substrate identification
  • Knowledge applying topcoats and lacquers

We will also support you to find work experience within local automotive companies.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed in a motor vehicle workshop environment, completing practical and written assessments and online multiple choice tests, in addition to e-portfolio building.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) in English and maths, or a relevant level 1 motor vehicle qualification.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first full level 2 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered. More information can be provided upon application.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed this course, you will have developed the necessary skill set to begin your career in vehicle body and paint repair. Alternatively, you may choose to further your skills and knowledge on a level 3 course, or progress on to an apprenticeship to earn while you learn.
