Level 3 Diploma in Vehicle Refinishing

This specialist course is designed for those looking to gain essential knowledge and skills to become a Vehicle Body Paint Refinisher working on a wide range of vehicles.

Working in our Automotive Hub including our spray booth, you will learn various preparation and application procedures, establish paint defects, diagnose and rectify paint faults, develop your knowledge of water-based paints and experience refinishing colour matching.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following:

  • Preparation and application procedures
  • Diagnosis and rectifying of paint faults
  • Working with plastic materials and components
  • Preparing metal and pre-painted surfaces
  • Establishing paint defects
  • Applying topcoats and completing
  • refinishing colour matching
  • Knowledge of water-based paints

We will also support you to find work experience within local automotive companies.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed in a motor vehicle workshop environment, completing practical and written assessments and online multiple choice tests, in addition to e-portfolio building.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have four GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above, including English and maths and preferably a level 2 Motor Vehicle qualification.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

If you already have a grade 4 or above in English and/or maths but wish to achieve a higher grade, we can also support you to do this.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2019), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be ready to launch your career in the automotive industry and may even want to look at management opportunities in all types of garages, dealerships and specialist refinishing companies.
