Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

With this course, you will be learning all of the basic skills needed to secure a successful career in the automotive industry.

Based in our Automotive Hub, you will discover how spark and compression ignition engines work, learn about the importance of cooling and lubrication, as well as steering, braking and suspension.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Tools and equipment
  • Spark and compression ignition engines
  • Cooling and lubrication
  • Steering
  • Suspension
  • Braking systems
  • Electrical systems
  • Ignition systems on both petrol and diesel vehicles

An additional qualification will be offered as part of your course; personal and social development for the automotive industry.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by completion of module packs, two online examinations, workshop practical assessments and e-portfolio submission.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have GCSEs at grade 4 (equivalent to grade C) or above in English and maths.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first full level 1 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered. More information can be provided upon application.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon completion of this course, you may choose to continue your studies with us at level 2 or progress on to an apprenticeship to earn while you learn.
