Level 2 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair

Working in our automotive hub, you will have the opportunity to develop your practical skills on real cars in a garage environment.

You will be fixing faults using computerised diagnostic tools and industry standard equipment and using fabrication tools while learning everything you need to know about light vehicles.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will cover the following units:

  • Health and safety
  • Job roles
  • Fabrication tools
  • Measuring devices
  • Engines and related systems
  • Chassis and related systems
  • Transmission and related systems
  • Electrical/electronic and related systems

We will also support you to find work experience within local automotive companies.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by assignments, completion of module packs, online exams, workshop practical assessments and an e-portfolio submission.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have successfully completed a level 1 motor vehicle qualification and have some knowledge of vehicles.

English and maths forms an important part of your future, ensuring you achieve the best success in your chosen career. But don't worry, if you haven't got the desired grades, we will still have a course available for you.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2018), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

Course fees are dependent on your personal circumstances and you may be eligible for funding to cover course fees. If you are aged 19-23 and this is your first full level 2 qualification, 100% of your course fees will be covered. More information can be provided upon application.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Upon completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to progress on to level 3 or progress on to an apprenticeship to earn while you learn.

Alternatively, you may wish to enter the automotive industry and gain employment as a technician and work your way up to garage manager.
