Level 2 Diploma in Professional Theatre (UAL)

This course, approved by University of the Arts London, one of the leading performing arts universities in the country, provides a great introduction to the performing arts industry, especially if you have never had the opportunity to study GCSE Drama in school.

You will be stretched and challenged by professional actors, directors and choreographers, to develop your creativity and a range of performance skills, with the opportunity to progress on to the next level of study to enhance your technical abilities and knowledge of the industry.

Based in a practical training environment including our bespoke theatres, dance studios and workshops, you will explore everything from vocal skills and dance skills to TV acting and scriptwriting, ending the year with a live performance.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete.

What will I study?

During this course, you will gain practical experience across a diverse range of production forms, including:

  • Vocal skills
  • Dance skills
  • Professional development
  • TV acting
  • Scriptwriting
  • Multi-media performance

Observing live performances forms a crucial part of your development, so take advantage of trips to London's West End and local theatres such as The Everyman in Liverpool to inspire you in preparation for your own performance in our theatre and at external venues.

How is it assessed?

There are no exams. This course is 100% practical and project based which allows you to explore and express your creativity in an open environment.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You do not need any formal qualifications, just a passion and commitment to your studies.

Achieving a good standard of English and maths is a key requirement for many jobs, as well as for courses you may wish to progress on to. If you achieve below a grade 4 in your English and/or maths GCSEs at school, you will study it alongside your chosen course when you join us.

Students will also need to take part in a practical audition. This could be a 1-2 minute performance of a song, dance, monologue, movement piece, circus skill or improvisation. More information will be provided once you have applied.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2019), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please visit our dedicated Financial Support page.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

This course is a great stepping stone to the next level of study, where you will have the opportunity to explore technical performance at a more advanced level and gain UCAS Tariff Points to enable you to study your chosen art form at university.

Once you have completed this course, you should have a stronger understanding of your performance capabilities and the career you would like to pursue.
