A level Business

This A level forms part of the IT and Business Professional Programme, incorporating A level Mathematics and level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Information Technology.

Delivered at the A Level Academy, you will explore everything from business objectives, corporate strategy, external influences, accounting and finance to human resources, operations management and marketing.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

All A level study begins in September and will take two years to complete.

What will I study?

During this A level, you will cover the following:

  • Issues involved with creating a business start-up, such as research, planning, and the factors that determine success.
  • How established businesses might improve their effectiveness.
  • Larger businesses which may be trading in international markets, and how managers might measure the performance of the business.
  • How businesses manage change successfully.

In addition to this, you will also cover a broad range of A level Mathematics and level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Information Technology topics from learning how maths is used to make predictions and model real-life situations, genetic inheritance and building to withstand earthquakes to IT systems, website development and social media in business.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by written examinations and a range of practical and written work, including both internal and external assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a grade 4 in English and a grade 5 in maths.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed the IT and Business Professional Programme, you will have the opportunity to progress onto university, a higher apprenticeship and a career in the IT and Business industries.

This Programme could lead to a wide range of careers such as a Software Engineer, Systems Developer, Business Analyst, Commercial Analyst or Management Consultant.
