A level Mathematics

This A level forms part of the IT and Business Professional Programme, incorporating A level Business and level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Information Technology.

Delivered at the A Level Academy, you will take a more investigative approach, understanding how mathematics is used to model real life situations such as genetic inheritance, pin codes, putting hardware into space and building to withstand earthquakes.

When will I start the course and how long will it take?

All A level study begins in September and will take two years to complete.

What will I study?

You will extend your knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, geometry and statistics and will learn how mathematics is used to model real-life situations.

This will enable you to understand, construct and make predictions about systems as diverse as:

  • Genetic inheritance
  • Pin codes
  • Group behaviour
  • Putting hardware into space
  • Impact of ice on electrical cables
  • Building to withstand earthquakes

In addition to this, you will also cover a broad range of A level Business and level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate in Information Technology topics from business objectives, corporate strategy, accounting operations management and marketing to IT systems, website development and social media in business.

How is it assessed?

You will be assessed by written examinations and a range of practical and written work, including both internal and external assessments.

Do I need any previous qualifications to start this course?

You should have five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including a grade 4 in English and a grade 5 in maths.

What are the course fees?

If you are a school leaver, aged 16-18, (under the age of 19 on or before 31st August 2017), you do not pay tuition fees or examination and registration fees and may be eligible for additional support depending on your financial situation. For more information, please click here.

What can I go on to do once I have completed this course?

Once you have successfully completed the IT and Business Professional Programme, you will have the opportunity to progress onto university, a higher apprenticeship and a career in the IT and Business industries.

This Programme could lead to a wide range of careers such as a Software Engineer, Systems Developer, Business Analyst, Commercial Analyst or Management Consultant.
