15-year-old Lauren Ellis has come a long way since becoming a student at St Helens College 14-16 Academy back in September.
Lauren from Newton-le-Willows decided to join St Helens College 14-16 Academy as she felt unhappy at her current high school and didn’t feel she was reaching her full potential. Lauren had already planned to start looking for a new school to join in September when a friend mentioned the St Helens College 14-16 Academy to her.
Speaking about her decision-making process Lauren said, “My friend was also thinking about moving schools and recommended St Helens College 14-16 Academy to me. I looked online at the website and was really impressed with the options available to me, I applied and was invited in for an informal interview and was offered a place immediately.”
Lauren wanted to attend a school that was focused on her studies but also provided a friendly environment, a place where she can progress and help her to obtain the grades she really wants to achieve. Speaking about her experience so far Lauren said, “I am really enjoying the 14-16 Academy, each class is so different; my grades have improved massively in such a short space of time. At first I found the thought of moving to a new school daunting but my first day was just like any other, I instantly felt a part of the 14-16 Academy and the support I receive from my teachers is amazing.”
“My lessons are really interesting and taught in a way that is different to how those lessons would be taught in my previous school. The classes are a lot smaller so everyone is more involved and you receive dedicated support from the teachers.”
Caron Kerr, Headteacher added: “Lauren is a very focused individual and knows what she wants to gain from her education, she has embraced the opportunities here in order to achieve her goals. During her time with us, her confidence has grown and she is really flourishing.”
Thanks to the practical skills and experience gained from her industry pathway, Lauren is currently transferring this hospitality experience into her part-time work in a local café.
Lauren added, “If you are thinking about joining St Helens College 14-16 Academy, do it! I was nervous at first to move to a new school but in such a short time I have already exceeded my predicted grades, I have just achieved a grade 7 (equivalent to an A grade) in my English mock exam something I didn’t think I could achieve”.
Lauren who has chosen to pursue the Leisure and Retail industry pathway, enjoys taking part in practical lessons in St Helens College’s state of the art facilities. She is determined to get the GCSE results that she needs to go on to St Helens College where she wants to study Cabin Crew to allow her to progress on to a career within the airline industry. After completing her studies Lauren wants to join the Emirates airline, and fulfil her dream of travelling around the world.
