Christabelle Paradzai

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations

"The course provides a good entry into construction for someone who is new to the industry, it has given me the opportunity to try new things and develop my skills."

Adult student, Christabelle Paradzai, aged 23, was looking for a new challenge after completing her A levels. She was interested in pursuing a career in Construction and after undertaking research, found her dream apprenticeship with CITB – the industry training board for the construction industry.

CITB enrolled Christabelle on a framework with St Helens College that would help her to gain valuable skills, experience and qualifications including: a level 3 diploma in the Built Environment and an NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations General.

Alongside studying for her qualifications, Christabelle works four days per week with construction firm Eric Wright Group UK as a Site Technician.

Studying at St Helens College has given Christabelle confidence whilst allowing her to develop skills in construction to help her succeed in forging a successful career in the industry.

Christabelle said “The course provides a good entry into construction for someone who is new to the industry, it has given me the opportunity to try new things and develop my skills. I’ve loved studying at St Helens College and the Town Centre location and strong transport links made my commute from Preston much easier.”

Christabelle highly recommended her course, praising her College tutors for their support “The tutors offer so much support and also understand the struggles of working and studying at the same time. As long as you put in the work they will ensure that you pass and achieve your goals”.

Christabelle is currently working across the Northwest. and has worked on various construction projects. She’s currently working in Stockport surveying the site of Stockport Council’s new offices.

The future looks bright for talented Christabelle who is currently deciding how to progress further. She added “I am currently weighing up all of my options and I’m torn between going onto either a HNC Civil Engineering, a degree in Construction Management or a degree in Construction Project Management. Regardless, my time at St Helens College has helped to prepare me for this.”

Her ultimate career aim is to be a successful Site Engineer in the future.
