CIPS level 3 Advanced Certificate in Procurement and Supply Operations

"I love putting into practice directly what I have learnt on the course to my job."

Laura HarrisonLaura Harrison, 23, from Windle, St Helens currently works at Select Switchgear Ltd as a Purchasing Manager. Based in Haydock, the company manufactures and distributes low voltage switchgear products for commercial and industrial applications around the world. Laura started a Business Administration Apprenticeship with the Haydock based firm and had ambitions of staying with the company. Wanting to further develop her career, Laura went into a role in Procurement. She explains “After completing my apprenticeship I wanted to stay with the company and following discussions with my manager, we decided that a role in the procurement and supply side of the business would be the best route for me as I had already gained some experience during my apprenticeship.”

After starting, she was advised by her sales director to look for a course which would complement her new role in procurement. Luckily for Laura she didn’t have to travel very far as St Helens College offers full range of procurement and supply qualifications accredited by The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). CIPS is an international organisation, based in the UK, serving the purchasing and supply profession – they are the leading body representing the field of procurement and supply chain management.

Laura enrolled on the Level 3 CIPS Advanced Certificate. Aimed at those who are new to, or wishing to start a career in Procurement and Supply and are seeking a recognised qualification, it’s an excellent starting point. The course has allowed Laura to learn the theoretical knowledge and skills which can be applied to her role at Select Switchgear. Laura says, “I love putting into practice directly what I have learnt on the course to my job. I also enjoy the fact the class is a varied mix of people. It’s nice to hear from other professionals working in other sectors about their experiences as they share their expertise.”

Laura has recently completed her course and will be going onto study the level 4 CIPS Advanced Certificate in September to further develop her skills and career. Speaking about the course and St Helens College Laura says, “I would highly recommend. The college itself is lovely and can accommodate all needs. Teaching staff are friendly and will go out of their way to ensure you are fully confident with your studies and there is always someone to turn to if there are any problems.”
