CharlotteCharlotte, joined St Helens College from Byrchall High School after a careers event at school helped her to realise that a future career in sport and teaching was ultimately, what she wanted to do.

Upon completion of her GCSEs, Charlotte enrolled onto the level 2 Activity Leadership course after tutors offered guidance on potential routes she could take in the industry. Charlotte says, “The tutors make all the difference to me, from the outset they were so helpful, welcoming and professional, their industry insight and links really enhance our learning.”

Since joining the course, Charlotte, 16, from Blackbrook, has gone from strength to strength, achieving not only top marks on every module so far, but also impressing her classmates and tutors with her success as a professional swimmer.

Charlotte trains twelve times a week with Prescot Swimming Club, in a morning before College, and again afterwards. Her discipline is 200m butterfly as well as front crawl and recent accolades include holding six records at her club and competing in the British Nationals where she was placed 15th in the whole country. Charlotte is currently in training for this year’s competition.

“I’ve really enjoyed being at College and have a real love of sport. The course here has not only fuelled my passion in the subject but has translated into my extra-curricular activity as a professional swimmer. I love that I am studying alongside likeminded sportsmen and sportswomen on my course.”

Upon completion of her course this summer, Charlotte will be progressing onto the two-year, level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science. From this, she plans to go onto study for her degree with an ultimate career aim of becoming a PE teacher.
