Year 11 students at St Helens College 14-16 Academy were treated to an interactive performance of Shakespeare’s infamous play, Macbeth, by award-winning theatre company, Box Clever.

The writer-led theatre company, based at the Oval House Theatre in London, visited students to help them prepare for their English Literature GCSE examinations.

The theatrical Box Clever cast included Cory Stuckey as Macbeth, Riad Richie as the Inquisitor and Jessica Dennis as Lady Macbeth. The cast interacted with students in the audience, before encouraging them to participate as characters in the performance.

Year 11 student, Megan Simmons, said, “I love reading plays especially by Shakespeare, so it was great to be able to get involved although it was a bit nerve-racking at first. It was also interesting to see Macbeth performed in a modern way too, with links to current themes in society such as power, ambition and greed.”

Double, double toil and trouble
