Our courses are ideal for jobseekers, anyone needing to improve their skills and confidence to apply for higher-level courses, or to improve employment prospects. Many courses lead to nationally accredited qualifications to enhance your CV.

WorkWorld Courses

Digital Creations

Creating, uploading and editing digital images on to your computer. You will learn how to insert these photographs into Microsoft Word if you wish to create posters, cards or newsletters. Download photographs to your computer from your mobile, computer or digital camera or camcorder. Edit your photographs using basic editing software. Use your images in Word. Create personalised documents including cards, posters and newsletters.

Digital Skills – Basic IT

If you do not feel confident with using a computer this course is ideal as it can allow you to progress onto the use IT course. Course includes:

  • Understand how to use a computer
  • Set up and use an email account
  • Search for information on the internet
  • Saving and printing information
  • Staying safe online
  • Introduction to Universal Job Match and applying for Universal Credit online

Digital Support for Universal Credit Customers

This course has been tailored to support new and existing customers who are claiming Universal Credit and need support with skills to manage their digital accounts as the full digital service is rolled out. Key topics covered will include: understanding what full-service Universal Credit will mean for you; how to message, and receive messages from your work coach or adviser; how to attach and upload documents to your account; accessing benefits/debt advice; getting the best out of Find A Job to look for and find work; using Social Media to find work; managing your CVs and job applications.

Functional ICT

This course builds on your basic IT skills, if you are confident you have grasped the basics you can start at this level but if not, you can start at the basic IT course. It will allow you to become an independent IT user and manage your account on Find A Job, edit and upload your CV. Course includes:

  • Be able to use a computer safely
  • Setup and use an email account to send, receive and reply to emails
  • Know how to protect yourself when online
  • Basic Word Processing for editing CVs
  • Search for specific information using a search engine
  • Using your Find A Job and applying for Universal Credit online

First Aid – basic life support & defibrillator awareness

This short awareness course covers basic life support and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator. It will give you the skills needed to administer safe and effective basic life support and an awareness of the use of defibrillator (AED) equipment in an emergency. Whether you are employed or applying for work; retired or volunteering; looking after children or family members – this course could prove to be a real lifesaver!

Preparing to Work in a Contact Centre

This course will help you to understand the principles of working in a contact centre environment and how to handle inbound and outbound calls. You will identify appropriate and inappropriate ways of handling calls; understand customer confidentiality; respect and handle the diverse range of customers you will speak to daily. You will also learn how to deal with complaints in a positive manner. You will develop practical skills in our contact centre simulator room and have first-hand experience of using “hands free” equipment to manage calls. You will develop an excellent teamwork ethic, and have an opportunity to explore a range of career options in a contact centre environment. Upon successful completion of this course, you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification and have the opportunity to progress on to employment or further learning.

Preparing to Work in Customer Service

This course will help you to develop the skills, qualities and resilience required to work in a customer facing role. It offers excellent preparation for those hoping to find employment in the visitor economy, retail; hospitality & catering; travel & tourism; call centre, contact centre; reception work and administration. It will help you understand the principles of good customer service and its impact on a business; identify appropriate and inappropriate ways of communicating verbally with customers; understand customer confidentiality and respecting customer diversity; know how to deal with complaints in a positive manner. You will also have the chance to develop an excellent teamwork ethic, and have the chance to explore a range of possible career options in a customer service environment. On successful completion of this course you will achieve a nationally recognised level 1 Award in Occupational Studies and have the chance to progress on to employment or further learning.

Preparing to Work in Care

This course offers you an insight into working in the care sector. It will help you recognise and develop the core skills, attitudes, qualities and knowledge required to gain employment in this sector. It will help you recognise the core principles of working in care; understand the range of services offered and potential careers offered by the care sector; understand the key skills, qualities and attitudes required to work in care; be aware of the importance of protecting and safeguarding vulnerable children and adults when working in care; be able to assess yourself against an employer’s needs and expectations.

Preparing to Work in Warehousing & Logistics

This course will introduce you to the principles of working in a warehousing and logistics environment including distribution centres. You will learn the principles of warehousing and logistics; the importance of following correct procedures to receive and store goods and how to process and dispatch goods correctly. You will also learn the crucial health and safety considerations to be made when working in a warehousing and distribution environment, as well as how to deliver outstanding customer service. On successful completion of the course, learners will achieve a Level 1 Certificate in Warehousing, nationally accredited and awarded by NCFE (QCF).

Preparing to Work in Schools

For anyone who is thinking of working in a school setting, this course will help you to develop an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting; how to support the well-being of a child or young person; the basics of child and young person development and the important principles of communicating effectively with children and young people. There are no formal entry requirements, although anyone applying for a place will be invited in for a short skills assessment to identify any support needs, before starting the course. On completion of the course, participants’ will achieve a Level 1 Award in Preparing to Work in Schools - a nationally recognised qualification awarded by CACHE NCFE.

Step Out – Motivational & Confidence Building

Step Out is a superb confidence building course. It will help you to take back control of your future by giving you the tools to overcome the barriers which have held you back. During the course, you will gain understanding of your personal barriers and develop approaches to overcome them. You will discover ways to live more positively and healthily, setting realistic and achievable future goals. Additionally, you will learn how to improve your personal relationships to live and work better with others to become more relaxed, sociable and employable. It aims to significantly improve your positivity and self-confidence, helping you to rediscover yourself.

Mind, Body & Spirit

This course is ideal for anyone who needs to reduce stress or anxiety and improve their general health and wellbeing. It offers an introduction to complementary therapies, which are alternatives to traditional medicine. These can be used alone, or in conjunction with other remedies, and use a more holistic approach to helping you feel better and improving your quality of life in particular when managing pain or discomfort. This course will give you a basic overview of the purpose and benefits of alternative therapies in maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Introduction to Mental Health Awareness

An introduction to understanding mental health and the problems that can cause mental ill-health including stress, anxiety, phobias, depression and dementia. You may wish to attend this training with a view to progressing on to further qualifications or employment within Health & Social Care, to develop within your current job role within the sector, or just to improve your own personal knowledge and understanding mental ill-health.
An option to complete a full level 1 qualification will be offered at the end of this course.

Level 1 Award in Mental Health Awareness

This qualification aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental health difficulties, dispel some of the myths and misconceptions frequently linked to mental health issues and develop learners’ knowledge of the rights of those with mental health issues.

Makeup Masterclass

Learn how to create fabulous looks yourself on our makeup master classes. You will learn how to apply foundation, face contouring, applying day and evening eye make-up, applying lashes and shaping eyebrows. Upon completion, you have the opportunity to progress on to an accredited beauty course at Knowsley Community College.

You will attend for 3 hours per week over 3 weeks.

Sparkle and Shine for summer (beauty, hair and makeup)

This course will teach you the basics to achieve the perfect Christmas party look, or summer glow for your hair, skin and nails. It which will introduce you to a range of tips and tricks to improve your summer look on a budget and save you some money. Course includes:

  • Skin - cleanse, tone and moisturise, skin types
  • Hair - Festival hair with glitter, creating the perfect blow dry
  • Nails - file, polish and nail art
  • Make-up - evening make up application

You will also have the opportunity to try a range of techniques and products to suit your needs.
