Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy

Aligned to meet the national occupational standards for massage, this technical qualification is aimed at developing the knowledge, understanding and technical skills needed for a career as an employed or self-employed, Sports Massage Therapist.

The course will start in September and will take one year to complete. You will attend College for one evening per week on a Thursday, from 6.00pm – 9.00pm.

This course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens, WA10 1PP.

You will be taught by industry professionals in our fully-equipped gym and sports studio.

During this course, the following areas will be covered:

  • Anatomy and physiology for sports massage – USP41
  • Principles of health and fitness – USP42
  • Understand the principles of soft tissue dysfunction – USP43
  • Professional practice in sports massage – USP44
  • Sports massage treatments – USP45
  • Business
  • The theory underpinning the practice of sports massage therapy
  • The anatomy and physiology
  • Nutrition
  • Classification of sports injuries
  • Stages of healing
  • Planning, preparing and applying a range of sports massage methods
  • Emergency first aid

You will be assessed through a number of methods, including portfolio work, observation and examination.

It would be desirable that you have achieved either a level 2 in Anatomy and Physiology, GCSE Biology, GCSE PE or have relevant industry experience.

The total cost of this course is £2,225. You may be eligible for funding depending on your personal circumstances and subject to a fee assessment during the enrolment process. For further details, please visit our financial support pages.

If you are aged 19 or over, you may be able to apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to cover your course fees. An Advanced Learner Loan enables you to study now, pay later. Loan eligibility is not dependent on income or employment status and there is no credit check. Loan repayments do not start until you have finished your course and earn over £25,000 per year.

Upon successful completion of this course, you could progress on to a higher level course such as the level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy.
