Shannon DoodyCurrent business student, Shannon, has her sights set on an apprenticeship after making excellent progress on her course.

After completing her GCSEs at St Julie’s Catholic High School, Shannon joined the level 3 Diploma in Animal Management to explore and pursue her passion for caring for animals.

After gaining an impressive D*D* at the end of her studies, equivalent to two A levels, Shannon said, “I was so surprised to learn what I had achieved in my final grade. I worked so hard throughout the year and was beyond happy when I found out that it had all paid off in the end.”

After enjoying her experience at College and at this stage, still having ambitions to launch her career in the animal management industry, Shannon decided to study a business qualification, so that she could obtain valuable business skills within areas such as finance, marketing and management with the added opportunity to understand what it takes to start a successful business one day.

Commenting about her time on the course, Shannon said, “The tutors on my course are very supportive and work hard to motivate each student. Studying business has helped me to see my own potential and what I am capable of. I now feel confident about my future.”

Shannon believes that the level 3 Foundation Diploma in Business has been “challenging but enjoyable” and despite originally having her heart set on working in the animal management industry, she is now keen to explore other opportunities.

Shannon said, “Before starting this course, I was set on working with animals, but having now explored different aspects of business, and how interesting it can be, I feel that this has opened my eyes to all of the other possibilities available to me once I complete my course.”

She added, “I now hope to work towards a career in accountancy and plan to do this through securing an apprenticeship once I complete my course. I prefer to learn in a practical way, so to be able to do this whilst earning a wage and gaining experience on-the-job, seems like the perfect fit for me.”

Looking to the future, Shannon is excited about the possibility of working in the business sector and feels that her experience at St Helens College has given her the confidence and independence, to help her to achieve her ambitions.
