Picture of our childcare and education studentsOur level 3 Childcare and Education students, will be progressing their careers in the early years and education sector this summer following successful completion of their course.

The students have secured employment and university places with some students going into areas of study including counselling, nursing, teaching and psychology.

Level 3 childcare student, Stephanie Cupitt, who will be attending Cumbria University this September, said, “I can’t wait to move away and experience the student lifestyle at university. It has been the best and hardest experience throughout these past two years and I really couldn’t have done it without the support from the tutors.”

The level 3 childcare and education department at St Helens College boasts high student success rates, resulting in 31% of students being accepted at their first choice universities around the country, and 50% of students gaining employment in schools and nurseries where they originally completed a placement during their course.

Amy Odell, who begins employment as a Teaching Assistant at Parish Primary School this summer, said, “I have loved my time on the course, especially gaining first-hand experience of working within an early years setting.

She added, “Being out on placement has helped me to gain confidence in communicating with others and trying out new challenges. Throughout the two years of the course, I have made great relationships with both the children and staff.”

Students benefit from advanced learning on the level 3 course, gaining practical skills when completing work placements and theoretical knowledge in the classroom at St Helens College. Alongside this, students study core units such as child development, play and learning, and how to support children with literacy and numeracy.

Nicola Langton, Childcare and Education Lecturer at St Helens College, said, “The level 3 Childcare and Education (EYE) course is very intense. These students are the first cohort to qualify on the new syllabus and the quality of work that the group has produced is amazing. It has been a pleasure to teach and work with such a dedicated team of professionals. I wish them all the best for their future plans.”
