Picture of Sue and Shaun“The tutors were very knowledgeable and genuinely invested in how we spent our time on the course.”

DIY enthusiasts, Susan and Shaun, have always had a passion for perfecting their home. Whether undertaking creative décor projects or completing general home repairs, they enjoy developing their knowledge and skills.

The married couple from St Helens, initially attended the short course in plastering whilst in the midst of a tricky coving installation project at home. They enjoyed the course so much, that they have since completed the short course in carpentry and joinery.

As someone who enjoys making and creating, often using Pinterest and YouTube as a source of inspiration, Susan says, “We both enjoy experimenting with different DIY ideas, and see it as a bit of a hobby, so being able to learn the technical skills to carry out more complicated home improvements while also having the opportunity to socialise with other people on the course, has been fantastic.”

Shaun, an avid carpenter in his spare time, adds, “One of the great things about the courses is that they don’t affect any work commitments with them taking place in the evening and we even started to see them as something to look forward to during the week.”

With experienced tutors and equipped workshops to work in, students get the most out of their experiences. Shaun explains, “The tutors on both courses were very knowledgeable and were genuinely invested in how we spent our time on the course, even tailoring our experience to specific areas that we wanted to develop our knowledge in.”

With two short courses already under their belt, Susan has her sights set on completing the short course in painting and decorating next, while Shaun is interested in developing his skills and knowledge of plumbing and bricklaying.

Hoping to inspire others to consider undertaking a DIY short course, Shaun says, “For the cost and the overall experience that you have, it is definitely worth signing up! We’ve both thoroughly enjoyed attending and have learnt so much already – we have found that this is such a great opportunity to invest in our hobby.”
