Picture of our student, WillAnimal lover Will was feeling unfulfilled in his career as a Personal Assistant at a healthcare company and knew he had to make a change!

Will explains, “I love all animals, big and small, so enrolling on to the level 3 Animal Management course, to pursue a career in animal care, was an easy decision for me!”

He adds, “The animal industry is very competitive so I was looking for a qualification to help me progress on to university, as well as provide me with background knowledge to increase my chances of gaining employment.”

One of the main reasons Will chose to study at St Helens College was the flexibility. He explains, “I was able to complete the course in just one year, rather than the minimum of two years that other courses require, which fitted in well with my future plans.”

Will thoroughly enjoyed his course and speaks highly of the college facilities, he says, “The indoor and outdoor animal units at the College are fantastic as you have the opportunity to work with a variety of animals, from birds and mammals to reptiles and amphibians.”

Will adds, “The tutors provided great support and delivered engaging lessons. They are all so positive and approachable and are always on hand to provide help.”

Will, who also volunteered at the Welsh Mountain Zoo whilst completing his course says, “My work placement has given me an even broader experience of different types of animal care, as I found myself working with a range of animals, from snow leopards to sea lions, on a day-to-day basis.”

Considering his next steps, Will has a number of exciting options. The successful completion of his course has given him a range of university and degrees options to choose from, and he is currently exploring the possibility of starting his own animal encounters business.
