Picture of our students building the bedding plant holdersVictoria Park’s Community Garden has some new raised planters to add to its ever-growing floral display, thanks to a green-fingered community group and students from St Helens College.

As part of the Victoria Park Heritage Lottery Funding Activity Plan, Foundation Academy students from the College were invited by St Helens Council’s Ranger Service to design, build and install three accessible planters for the Community Garden.

Their brief required that planters could be used by disabled people among the park’s Community Garden Group, and had to be long in length, narrow in width and low in height, so that wheelchair users could plant in and maintain the flower beds.

The beds were populated with flowers grown by the Community Garden Group in the Orangery at the Mansion House.
